Post Success and Thanks!

I just wanted to let everyone know who helped out with my electrical problem that the car is up and running again, happy as can be...
Also, the adventure gave me a chance to really clean up the electrical system contacts and cable routing.
It took me three days just to figure out that the starter and solenoid worked correctly. Thanks to Dan (IceShark) I received my new positive battery cable (to the starter) and have it installed already, along with a new voltage regulator.
What a work of art! Thanks, Dan!
By cleaning up every contact I could find under the hood I eliminated a bounce in my engine temp and fuel gauges... awesome side effect!

Devia: thought you might be interested to hear, when I cut the ends of the old positive to starter cable, they looked great. I was worried; I started to think that the problem WASN'T the 12V cable...
As I worked my way back the old cable, cutting as far as I could reach (per your routing instructions) I finally came to the "goods". There was a two - three inch section that was burned... right through the cable housing AND the evil tan routing tubing.
Nasty stuff - I wonder how close I was to an engine fire?!

Anyway, it was great the way everyone came together to on my behalf to help out! The new cable and cleaned contacts look and work great!

Jake, glad everything worked out great and I was able to help.

Man, your description of the OEM cable is scary!! With a hard short and a good battery you can put over 600 amps in and actually arc weld easy as pie. Arc welding tends to start fires in engine bays. Who was it that just had their main battery cable melted and welded into the bellhousing?

The thing that really frightens me is having a Rennlister crash, get knocked out or pinned in, have an old cable like yours short and start a fire, and they burn alive.
