The real bad part is that a car that sits without regular maintenance can often have more problems than a car that is driven.

The other problem that this guy has is that he hoped it would become a classic. But Porsche screwed him in making these cars so reliable. Lots are still around, in good condintion and there value just hasn't skyrocketed.

He thought he was parking an AC Cobra, instead he got an 88 Mustang. He's lost money everyday that thing has been in storage, the first person that wants to drive it is going to find himself replacing the exhaust and if he's not careful loosing the timing belt.

Remember the intervals on our cars is every 35K miles or two years Sitting in a garage for ten years means starting it is a crap shoot.

On a similar note, within a mile of each other on the same street here in Nashua are two 73 Rustang Convertables. One is Baby blue with a condition of 6 out of ten at best, 302 2V motor, single exhaust. Guy is asking 11,945, just down the street is a red one, in show condintion, Red, body and motor is a 9 out of 10, he's got the non-functional hood scopos and asking 10,500.

Sad thing is even the nice one isn't worth more than 6,000 on a good day. (73 had crap performance, and just because they aren't rusting now doesn't mean they won't start)

I will say the same thing as I said the first time I saw this. I would go drive it in the mud, leave a couple of pizza boxes in it, and fill the rear floor board with beer cans. Then park it in front of the guys house.

Very nice car. Over on Pelican it was said the owner refused a bid of 36,000 when it was up for sale.

I think the bidding on eBay officially stopped in the mid 20s.

A little while ago there was a '91 951 cabriolet with Zero miles for sale in Germany. The asking price was 60K euros.

The owner had several different Porsches with Zero miles in his collection....

Someone check me if I am wrong, but its just a plain jane 951, not a 951S, right? Without knowing the engine code, you can't be sure. I know that you could get the '88 S in colors other than Silver, but the interior is wrong for an '88 S, isn't it?

Regards,

It's a 951 S. It has the forged club sport wheels and the S4 calipers in the front, I suppose he could have upgraded those to S spec but I doubt it..you can probably tell by the VIN but I'm not sure what all the numbers mean. I'm sure somewhere here does.

It also has the premium sound system, which you could get on a regular turbo but it came standard on the S I believe..not sure what you mean by the interior is wrong, as its exactly the same as any other 87-on interior besides the extra speakers that any other 944 can have..

Dude has it listed as an S, but even as nice as it is the opening bid is still way too high.

I think I would like to buy it, arrange to pick it up on a day that I know it is going to rain, tell the putz I am driving it back to Ohio and do a smokey burnout down the street while smoking a cigar in the drivers seat.

Buy it, show up in greasy jeans. Tell the former owner that you needed a nice shell to drop on LT1 with nitrous into it.

Then the pizza boxes burn out et al.

I'm sure it is an S. What fool would lie about this car? And his serial number is only 85 earlier than my TS so probably was in the same build run. You could easily tell from the engine serial number.

Someone also posted the serial number runs for the TS on Rennlist. If John would ever get the search function working you could probably find the post.

It is a beautiful car.

I saw the car at the Regional Concours in May. It looks mostly stock. It had started to corrode in places.

It has drilled rotors front and back. I thought the factory 'S' / S4 brakes where only vented, not drilled. If this is not stock, then this car isn't a complete virgin, and won't command the amazing price.

Why would someone turn down $36K for this car. In the current market he'll have a hard time getting $30K.

Vaino, No, just vented rotors.

How on earth can you see drilled rotors? My monitor or eyeballs must be wearing out.

I saw the car in person. We were both competing at the same Concours. I was very fortunate, and I was able to take second, to his third. We both lost to the perfect '89 944 of Hank Merke.

It is exactly what you would expect from a car that hasn't been driven in fifteen years. Everything that would wear, hasn't. Those things that age, have. It does present very, very well.
