I know this may seem like I'm pointing you in a funky direction, but I was looking at <a href="http://www.924board.org" target="_blank">www.924board.org</a> earlier and noticed they have an entire forum dedictated to engine swaps. Since the 24 and 44 are so similar I would say check that site out to see what others have done. I noticed someone has in fact stuffed an Audi 5 cylinder in an 924 and 44 when most folks say it is too long.

Personally I would like to stuff a 1.8 Turbo with all the Quattro drivetrain into my car. The 1.8T should be pretty easy to get at least 225hp out of and AWD on one of our cars would rock in Club Rally.

actually the 924 turbo wagon, had 5cyl turbo motors.
