Here's the story, last week I started up and noticed someting didn't sound right, oil pressure was low. Turned off engine looked on driveway to see almost all of my oil on the ground. Oil filter seal was blown. I change oil & filter thinking something might be wrong with filter. Same thing happend. So I checked the site and found several listings pointing towards oil pressure relief valve as the problem.
Figured I'd replace the oil pressure relief valve and also remove and clean and change seals on the oil filter / cooler housing.
Did all that and used the old oil relief valve as a guide for lining up the housing. Started the car up and got normaloil pressure 4.5 to 5 at startup then down to 3.5 when warmd up.
Had a lot of lifter noise for about ten minutes then the noise went away. Drove car for about 5 miles. Turned off car in driveway to check for leaks, proper oil level. Every thing was fine till I started the car up again. Lots of lifter noise and very low oil pressure.
Not sure what to check. Looking for help !!
Car had been running well before this all happened. Am I missing something simple???
The car is an 1987 -- 951 with about 105,000 miles on it. Help !

Did you use a "Porsche" oil filter - or an aftermarket? there's an anti-drain back valve in the real porsche filters that preventts the oil pump loosing its prime.

The belts have been changed about 2,000 miles ago and car was running fine.
Oil filter is Mahle brand for Porsche.
I will check the Crank Bolt just to be sure.
I'm wondering if I should have used the aligment tool for the oil filter/cooler housing? I figured I could use the old valve to line up the housing.
I just can't figure out why when I first started the car I lots of oil pressure and when I restarted the pressure went low. I would have thought if I screwd something up I'd have low or no pressure from the start.

Gregpryz -
It does sound like you're loosing prime in the oil pump.
I've used the oil oil pressure valve as a guide MANY times - so as long as it goes in and out without any resistance that shouldn't be the issue. Assuming you lined it all up right. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Check the crank bolt...
