Shift Boot

Shift Boot
When I test drove my 944 I noticed the shift boot had a hole in it. Before I took delivery of the car I ordered a new boot from Pelican ($39.75). When I got the car and looked closely, my car has the one piece **** and boot, so the boot only I have will not work.
If anyone needs a black boot (just the boot), make me an offer at eelfner@execpc.com. If anyone has a black, one-piece boot and **** they want to sell, I'd be interested.

I thought there was only one setup. So you can't remove plastic shift pattern piece? For my 86 951 all I needed was the leather boot you purchased, a friend with an 83 N/A only needed the leather boot. What year is yours?

Hmmmmm. You think I got the right one? On Pelican's website there are two listed. A one piece that includes the **** and the boot for a two piece. I was assuming with the boot only, the whole **** assembly fits over the end of the boot.
On my car the leather goes all the way up and around the ****. The only plastic I see is the little plate with the shift pattern on it. Thanks for the input, I'll open the boot and dig a little further tonight.

Yes: that's the 'top cap' I'm talking about! It's in there real good: take your time and pry it off: hopefully you won't get too many scratches on it. Suggestion: you can take the whole boot/shifter assembly off, and then work on removing the cap from outside the car. (Pop the leather boot holder out, and you'll see a metal clip that goes over a rubber piece attached to the metal shift rod. Release the metal clip, and slide the hollow shifter up and out.)
Good luck!

[font face = helvetica]Z-Man is Right! BE CAREFUL
- it is real easy to bugger up the shift pattern button insert. I know, I did it myself!
The leather tends to be real tight - you can rip the stitching if you muscle it too much.
Because mine was so messed up, I ordered a nice slightly used one (including shift ****) from Partwerks for just $20 including shipping.
But I sold that 944 n/a before I could install the new part! Just last week I sold the **** and shift pattern button a couple days ago on eBay for $40.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the clarification. Evidently Pelican sells the one-piece unit to save folks trouble.
So I guess I don't have a shift boot to sell and I don't need the one-piece assembly...at least until I screw up the one I've got.
