Question Flywheel Sensor Adjustment Tool ?

The March 911 & Porsche has a how to & tail of woe on problems with replacing the flywheel sensor. Setting the air gap to 0.8mm was a problem area until a "local" shop in Oxfordshire loaned a shop made tool to the author. The tool was a shoulder pin 0.8mm longer than the sensor. This allowed the sensor bracket to be adjusted by bottoming out the bracket with the pin install. Question ?? Is this tool available or is a make it yourself item ?? --Roy--

I'm looking at the article right now. Referring to AmD (the shop in Bicester, Ox, UK) he says, "...with a clever little tool that the staff there had made..."

I don't recall ever seeing a reference to this as an available tool. I think the factory manual uses the super-glue & .8 mm washer method, but don't recall for sure.

Hey, SKIP!!! New product!! A piece of metal dowel the right dia. & length, with a screw & washer shoulder stop on one end... probably cost $200 to design, $3 to make, and sell for $25 (at Paragon) to $200 (at Performance)...

Jim, "If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat."

Quite clever, but there's one easier. Push the sensor in to stops, then lift .8mm. Use paint or scribe to mark bottomed position, then lift and measure using a feeler gauge (or washer).

I've got some garage-time tokens from the wif' this weekend, so maybe I'll have a go at this special tool.

Good Luck!

And what do you do if you can't get the sensor to move after ton of WD-40?

Well I broke the Au bracket that holds the sensors trying to remove it. I repaired it with glue until I welded it while doing a clutch replacement. I installed all the sensors with a good coating on anti-seize.

Naughty?? Me? Naw, just honest. _Real_ honest....

Jim, those who try to charge me $60 for a $20 heater valve will get _lots_ of free 'advertising'... henceforth & forevermore... & don't get me started on the doofs at Griot's Gar-bage...
