Question NEone Upgrade 944 NA brakes to Turbo

I would like to upgrade my front brakes from the standard to the Turbo (larger) version. I've seen caplipers on Ebay for a good price. Has anyone done this? Will they bolt on directly? I'm assuming I'll have to replace the rotors as well...?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. This is for an '86 944 NA

Thanx.

On the front you will need to change the spindels, hubs and rotors. The calipers bolt up on the back so all you need is rotors.

you should give us the MY of your car being to changed to which year 951 brakes. offset for 83-85 cars are running 23mm and later are running 55mm+ offset. so if it's early, you won't be able to run 15" wheels and you might have to cut a hole for the speedometer (agian, pre-85.5 cars only)..

guys please correct me if i'm not right with those numbers.

23mm offset is also found on the '86 NA and Turbo

You have to run 16' or bigger to clear the larger brakes

I think the only cars that run the speedo from the front left spindle are the 1987-88 924S. This is because the 924/944 (1978-85) ran it from the transaxle. The 1985.5-91 944 has an electronic pickup in the transaxle. When Porsche decided to start producing the 924S they didn't want to have to produce 2 different transaxles, so they ran the cable from the front left spindle.

People can feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

All transaxles I've seen for 944s have the provision for a speedo sensor (speed sender), but the early models (82-85) are not equipped with one and use a cable drive from the left spindle.

i was lookig at buying some spindles/calipers/etc. off of 86 951 and the person selling them said that they were pre-drilled for the speedo for early cars and could work for the 931.

For those interested... I will have a set of 944S2 spindles, hubs, and big brake adapters (for S4 or big red calipers) for sale just as soon as I install the M030 pieces. You can use these to upgrade any NA 944 to the turbo brakes. Pre '87 cars would have to change other parts for the conversion to late offset wheels. Write me direct for details.
