The other day I was haveing an alinement done when my ac/alternator belt came off. The shop fixed it (kind of) and I went on my way. THe car ran real slugish after that. I thought it was the 87 octane gas that my friend put in it so I just drove that gas and 1 good tank out of it and it was still running bad. I go to look under the hood and find that the pipe to and from the intercooler were never tightened after the belt was put on. This got me thinking. while the car was driving bad I had a real bad smell of exhaust. Does this mean that my turbo is going bad and letting exhaust through to intake side of things. The car runs good now that I tightened everything back, but it has me wondering how good it would run if my turbo is going bad. Sorry for the novel. Thank

The reason you had an exhaust smell when the pipe was loose is because you were blowing all your boost out that hole. The DME thinks things are pretty much normal since the AFM is sensing normal operation. Since boost is being blown off, and the DME thinks boost is present, richens the fuel, but the motor does not recieve the full amount of air.
I have no idea why they removed the pipes to tighten the belt. That procedure is done from under the car.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks Perry. I feel a lot better now. My knowledge about turbos is just enough to be dangerous but not enough to actually know how to fix something.
