Post Engine Wine?

I have heard a lot of talk about different kinds of wines. I have a low whine, more like a moan, that seems to emanate from the right front on the engine compartment. It seems to happen when I am at idle and revving up through first gear. It goes away and returns without any real frequency. What may be the cause.

BTW: What is this?

not relevant but ... damn, that's a fine looking engine bay you've got there! Wish I had the time (or should that be patience ) to get mine looking like that!

And yes, it's your cruise control (as Luke said).

Wine!? That must have been a dealer-installed option. I wish I had that. What vintage?

Check your power steering fluid. Try disconnecting the belt if it persists try disconnecting the alt belt. If it's still there then it might be the timing belt.

Thanks,

When I first got the car I spent a lot of time detailing everything that I could get access to. The engine bay need a lot of attention, as you can see it turned out pretty well.

I had to take the valve cover off due to a small leak, it was dripping oil onto the header (bad smell and fire hazard) Since I had it off I stripped and sanded then used high temp engine paint. After painting the whole cover I masked off the 'PORSCHE' and painted the letters with the same paint different color. Here is a close up.
