Post how do you get the freakin transmission off!!!

everything is disconected and unbolted. the only thing holding it on is the shifter that goes through that black tube and the drive shaft. the thing is that i cant slide it back because the spare tire well is in the way. how do you get it off? and how do you get that shifter rod through the black tube?

I just did this job as part of doing my clutch last week. My rod did not come out either. The manuals only recommend taking it out first to avoid damaging it during the tranny removal. If you are careful you can drop the tranny first, and then it will be easy to get the rod out. Out of curiosity why are you taking the transmission out?

Did you undo the shift rod and the shift lever inside the car? If you undo this, then move the lever to the side and slide the shift rod foward you should have enough clearance for the transmission. Also, stick a screw driver though the end of the shift rod to hold it in place, and keep it from sliding back into the tunnel

As far as the little plastic tube goes, if you happen to tear it up a little dont worry, it really does not make much of a difference.

There will be enough clearance if you disconnect the shift lever in the car and on the transmission then slide it really far forward. Also, you should have already marked the position of the driveshaft and slid it towards the front of the car by now to allow room for dropping it.

One more thing to watch out for doing this job is TAKE YOUR TIME WITH ANY CHEESEHEAD BOLTS!!!!! I stripped about 75% of them throught the job and it was NOT FUN trying to get them all removed.

HTH

Im not sure if thats really what its called but thats what I always have called them. They are like allen bolts but the head has 12 points instead of 6. They hold the pressure plate on and also the flywheel. I stipped so many that I almost gave up the job.

Do not try an pull it out the back of the car. Slide it foward inside the car. You have to lift it up and out of the tunnel and slide it as far foward over the center console as you can.

Glad to hear you finally had success. Do not sweat too much about the removing the crossmember. I have done it both ways, I really do not find an advatage or a disadvantage either way time wise that is.
