Post Accident today - stupid drivers.

I was going to lunch today, I said no but ended up breaking down and going anyway. I was in my 944 driving in the right turn lane to make a turn when this lady in a newer buick century pulled right out in front of me! Even amazing Porsche brakes didnt stop me in time I smacked her, hard. I caved in her rear passenger door, dented her passenger front door and placed a beating on hear rear 1/4 panel and wheel as well. I saw her car when she pulled over before i saw mine.

I got out of the car, called local police and told them the situation and i was told to wait for an officer. I then got out to check my car.

Which I wasn;t looking forward to..

And I found 1 4" long scratch and scuffed front bumper pads. Thumbs up to german engineering and a moveable front bumper. It did its job, it compressed and absorbed all of the impact and damage. I am going to replace the front bumper shocks and buff out the scratch.

The officer proceeded to write her a mess of tickets (failure to yield, carless driving), told me I had a nice car, handed me a complaint number and told me to be on my way. She has to gome home to her husband and explain why she got in an accident with some Porsche, why their rates are going up AND pay her fines.

I'm glad the damage is minimal. I think they're called Buick Centurys because their drivers are all 100 years old!

Do I have to replace the bumper shocks now? Are they a one time thing?

No you don't have to replace them. Measure your bumper to the sheet metal in the center and on each end and post the dimensions here. I'll try to find a couple of same year/models around here and get the measurements to compare.

Be sure to explain the exact locations on the ends you measure from and to.

I was just thinking us 951er's dont have that nice shock setup, a definate caveat to the 951 imo. Glad you had a fair experience with the police.

When I was in Carmel CA a UPS truck took the door off my rented rustang convertible.

The police report was 100% in UPS's favor. I wrote a letter to UPS's adjuster and my Geico adjuster.

Two weeks later I got a letter that UPS was 100% liable.

Sorry to **** on your parade.

Write down everything tonight, take pictures of your car, and be prepared to fight for what the police report says.

Sorry to hear about your car. I would check further tho as to the damage on your car. Sometimes ,it is very hard to see damage on the frame rail with all the stuff in your way. Put it on a lift and give it a good look -see.Hopefully you are right and it is only the bumper.

check the front shock absorber for the bumper.

I got hit in the rear of my car, a few months ago. it wasn't bad at all, I show no need to call the cops. When I looked at it later, I found some greenish fluid leaking out of the shock absorber. I bought I used one on ebay for like $20.

newer car bumpers are only tested at 2.5mph, ours were tested at 5mph. I think the gov changed the the laws in 89 or 90.

Sorry about hearing this. But at least your both OK AND she DID get a ticket. I once got rear ended in my RX-7 where the guy who hit me skidded for 15 yards...Yet didn't get any ticket at all. I think it was a case of reverse rasicim...Black Cop, Black idiot who couldn't drive and white RX-7 driver...Good luck with the insurance company!
