Post Stone Guard question

Do the stone guards peel off easily, or do they leave gunk all over the paint?

They say you can get them off using a hairdryer to soften the adhesive.

I've never tried it. Sounds risky to me.

Get the 3M paint eracer that you put on a drill and go at it. Be careful that you do not bump the textured paint that runs along the rockers as it will take it off. Once you find the right speed on the drill it will go pretty easy (stone gard flings off) too fast and it will melt the gards and they will stick again. Use lacquer thinner to take off the rest of the residue then wash and wax right then. This method took about 3 hours.

Unfortunately, the stone guards will not peel off! They're a major pain getting off. The best method I've found is to use a heat gun to soften the decal and a plastic scraper to carefully remove the goo. You can use a hair dryer (it takes longer) and must take your time to avoid scraping the paint. You can also use an eraser wheel on a drill but the same care should be taken to avoid paint damage.

I used the eraser wheel and GooGone to remove the residual adhesive. then buffed the paint underneath. I wish the whole car looked that good! Use the guards from harvey peck, he has ads in the classifieds, they are 3m and cut to factory patterns. use 50/50 alcohol and water to keep them wet when you apply them, then squeegie the bubbles. well worth the effort!!
