Default Speedometer Sensor on Tranny....Not working

Was in the process of putting in a Weltmeister short
shift kit (which works great BTW), but in the process
I dislodged the speedometer sensor. There appears
to be two parts to it....the upper sensor part, and a
lower unit with a shaft that goes down into the
transmission. When I bumped it, the upper part
came loose from the lower part.....

It doesn't appear to have been damaged, and
I believe I got it all back together correctly, but
now the speedo/odo doesn't work at all.

Any ideas? I did a search but didn't find much.

Is there a way to fix it? Or should I bite the bullet
and pay for a new one (only $59).

Thanks!

The same thing happened to mine when the axle came loose, and it looked fine but didn't work any longer. I had to buy a new one.
