I checked out the archive and I see a lot of folks go 225/50/15, but Bridgestone S03's come in 225/55 and they're closer in diameter to the stock 215/50. I just wanted to know if they'd rub up front or in back or anything or if there are any other problems I should know about. Not many folks seem to be running that size...

Hi
I run 225s on the front, and it seems a bit tight there, i am soon going to get some 205s or 15s, wich i think is the best. The 225s seem to bump into the edge of the panel when i hit a bump in little higher speed or taking a turn in the same movement, but i think my shocks are a bit worn, but thats my experience with 225s. i have 245 going 255 on the rear, and that seems ok, so 225s are nice if not too small
on the rear
take care

Yeah yeah, but are they 225/50 or 225/55? The 50's have a smaller overall diameter such that your speedometer is off by about 5%...The 55's are smaller about about 1%, which is negligible. I haven't heard of anyone running 225/55 (might be a new size for some performance tires).
They rub you say? Hm...I don't autocross or DE...
Just curious, do you have 7" or 8" wheels in the back?

Okay, I know it's better to have 225's on 8" rims than 7" because of the way it puts the rubber down, but at what point does it become detrimental? I've thought to always go for the fattest tires that'll fit on the rim and not rub or mess up the stock diameter...
And while I'm at it, what's +1, etc?
Cool link I found from Skip in the archives:

I'm running 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear and I'm not having any problems. The tyres are by Marshall (I got them cheap) and have lasted me 15k miles and still have a lot left in them!

i run 225/50/15's. you had me going there for a moment because i thought bridgestone finally came out with a tire size that would be perfect for the 15in wheel of the 944. i think that the rubbing issue is definately because of the worn shocks. that's the first i've heard of rubbing in front. 225/50/15's are a perfect uprgrade for someone that does not drive the freeway much. the speedo is off because the wheel assembly is now spinning a bit faster and revs will be higher now at speed than they were before (70mph=3000rpm). smaller diameter tire and throttle cam make the n/a's a lot more fun to drive.
