There was once a rumor that Porsche is planning a new entry model based on VAG 1,8T engine.

Ferrari gets 400hp out of a 3.6l engine (stock 360 Modena). It's got two extra cylinders though, but I'm quite sure that doesn't make such a big difference... so maybe take the current GT3 engine and do the variable valve timing thing with really aggressive cam profiles for upper rpm range...

As for the current lineup regarding cost vs. hp, I think it's pretty much like it always has been. Porsches are expensive cars to buy new. You can get pretty much all the HP you need, all it takes is $$$. And of course if you need to go faster, you can call Mr. Ruf in Germany
