Cheap DIY paintjob, here we go.......
Time to paint with rollers and rustoleum!
What I started with....
The car was that color, just lightly roughed it up with wet 180 grit. No shine in the paint at all, after wetsanding it, the paint actually looked better....
Where I am after 4 coats and no sanding/polishing
The hook looks wet because I just put a fresh coat on it. The fender is dry, and looks great.
More pictures to come as the paint job comes along. Plan is for the upper half to be gloss white, and the lower half a gloss/satin/flat black. Haven't decided yet.
All painting was done with a 2 inch foam roller and a 7 dollar can of Rustoleum gloss white.
Let me know what you think!

Good for you man! I'll be painting my car with this method after the cage goes in.
Post some more pics as you get further along. How many coats are you going for?

You are not alone

I think you should have disassembled the car more, aka door handles, mirrors, trim, rear lights, etc.
but its your car..... good luck!!!

Going for 8 coats total, maybe more as needed to ensure full coverage. I can do 2 coats a day, and it takes about 30 minutes a coat. I wetsand after every 2 coats, and immediatly put on the next coat after wetsanding. I plan on hitting small trim parts I missed with the rattlecan gloss white. I did a test, and they are a perfect match

OK what's a pedo bear? I think it looks kinda cute, but I have a feeling I'm about to start hating them.
Lookin' good! But be careful - your proposed color scheme would bring you close to impersonating the police.
I wonder if actual auto paint can be rolled on.

Drifting
the thing about paint jobs like is that even though you may be able to make it look pretty decent I don't think it will last very long. It will probably start to crack and chip very fast. I'd like to see more pics of your results.

Interesting... might be something to do with my beaters
(944's paint is in good shape)
If you remember in a year or two... or five, post some long-term followups on how it's holding up.

Yeah, it may not crack or chip all that bad, but without doubt it will not have the UV resistance of a quality activated auto paint (then again, rustoleum is not nearly as lethal!!)
A couple of years will be fine, but longer term (5 or so years) and the differences will show. Not that there is something wrong with it. The cost is very low and with work, the car can be very presentable.
What sometimes seems to be not well-understood is that inexpensive paint can look very good with proper cutting and buffing. I did the hood of my Subaru with rattle cans. Very cheap!! However, after polishing, most people are amazed at how good it looks. But I know is will not have the long term durability of the Glasurit I sprayed on my 944.
