Interesting Pete! And confusing. That base is huge!! I have a seat that doesn't have a base, and the lap-belt goes through the middle-back of the seat.

Would I STILL need to teather the top to the hatch?

Anyone try a genuine Porsche car seat like this?

I think with lap belts especially that there would be a need to tether. Also depends upon how well the bottom fits into the bucket seat.
Since Lap belts only tension due to inertia, I found the tether keeps the seat upright in corneres, mild stops etc. It was a huge improvement.
The seat in the photos is a one piece seat, there is no base per se, just the bottom of the seat. It fit pretty well into the buckets, and the relative height of the opening for the belt was by design.

Depends how old your child is! forward facing is not good for kids under 4 years.
Our little Arno is 5 months old and he travels in his mom's cars back seat facing backward. that quite impossible to do in my 951. I suppose i will disconnect/remove passanger airbag and put his seat on front seat (facing backward)

olli
i think it is a fedaral law here in the US that children not be in the front seat until a certain age. i was going to test the law and put my three month old in my mazda convertible, but decided to sell the car instead.

what is the US law regarding children and two seaters?

I think as long as there is no passenger air-bag in a 2-seater, you are fine. Otherwise, kids can't sit in front of an airbag.

I think airbags are pretty useless. Wear your seatbelts, and remove the explosives from the car!

No way would I put a child seat I the back of my 944S. It's too small back there, too much risk of the seat moving forward int he event of a rear and accident damaging the tether bolt that it is connected to.

The front seat is no better. It is highly irresponsible to have a child seat in a 944 period. This is your child you are talking about.

I think a 944 is WAY safer than most new crap Neon, Civic, or Corollas!

There have been several negative posts relating to the Porsche child seat-you might check the archives before buying one. Also, for child car seats, not the booster seats for older children, most states require tethering the seat. Most if not all new cars come with tethering locations.

"I think airbags are pretty useless."

I agree Andy. What kind of safety device kills those of our society we most want to protect.

Damn Safety ***** were so proud that they finally forced the Evil car companies to have airbags (the reason that they didn't want it was they couldn't determine how "powerful" it should be). Safety ***** walked away having foisted this on us and they promptly started killing small women and children.

My opinion. Make them much smaller. That way they can help small women and children (not kill them) and big fat asses like myself will still get some protection. Desiging them to keep someone like me alive in a full head on is not what you do.

I agree Sid! My Taurus (front and side airbags) has warning stickers all over it about the airbags possibly killing small passengers!? Imagine if a car company came out with a high-powered stereo system with the same warning? Bet it would be banned in every country!

I can see having a drivers airbag, to protect us from the steering wheel in a frontal hit. But explosive airbags all over the cabin to me is over-kill (no pun intended).

Funny how the airbag safety nuts created a product that forces the car-seat safety nuts to relinquish the front seats! It's silly already.
