Stupid people who would otherwise have long ago been listed for a Darwin award are instead alive and well due to the beneficence of others. their absolute number, and also proportion, therefore rising.
That is all well and good.
the trouble is they are allowed to vote (and hold office).

Good point. George W. is President of the U.S. of A. I guess it shows stupid people can do just about anything (at least with enough $$$ backing them).

To paraphrase from the Sixth Sense:
I see stupid people; they're everywhere.
Some of them don't even know they're stupid.

If there weren't any stupid people, we wouldn't know how smart we are.

Gosh darn it !!! We should stop being so nice! After all, if we are to believe in Darwinism, then we have to let natural forces work. That way only the fittest survive. If people want to drive without seatbelts, or ride motorcycle without helmets, or drive fast without the skills, then fine LET THEM! We don't need restrictive laws to keep these people safe and alive!

A friend who is head of a speech-therapy program for dyslexics thinks GeorgeW is certainly dyslexic. And she thinks he may not even be able to read! Hench the big pauses and blank stares between sentences when he speaks. Someone is feeding him his next sentence through one of those earpieces!

That's EXACTLY what I've told people all along! Only problem with that is, THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PERMITTED TO DRIVE [among other privelages where they risk killing the rest of us AND themselves] IN THE FIRST PLACE!! There are morons everywhere like the woman I saw CHANGE LANES into the fvcking SHOULDER this morning where she proceeded to drive for miles, plowing through and kicking up all kinds of car wreckage, tire carcasses, etc because she thought it was a lane.

I agree with the general philosophy of individual freedom, and it is too bad that so much effort goes into protecting people from their own stupidity. Hence warnings on those little dessicant packages that they shouldn't be eaten! I mean, how many times to you open an electronics product, look at the package of dessicant, and think, "Wow, that looks tasty!"

On the other hand, there is one issue that people rarely mention when the helmet/seat belt/etc. discussion arises:

When people who aren't wearing seat belts/helmets/etc. are involved in accidents it ends up costing me (and all of you who read this) money!!! Failure to wear belts/helmets/etc. leads to more serious injuries, bigger medical bills, and higher insurance premiums. Therefore, it is in my financial interest that other people use their belts/helmets/etc.

Cheers,

Mark

That's only because regulation leading UP TILL NOW has caused stupid people to multiply to the point that they make up a LARGE portion of our society. If regulation hadn't caused this huge influx of fvcking idiots, you wouldn't have to worry about BIG PREMIUMS or other economic hits if they systematically wiped themselves from the gene pool. If Darwinism had run its course all along, we'd be in a favorable situation with FEWER people making up the population overall.

Do you read the paper? Have you seen how many problems are caused by overpopulation and helpless/worthless people consuming resources and tax dollars? It's because the government [*cough* Democrats] cater to them! Sure it's too late to do much about it now but the government fvcked up in the past to allow this number of babbling idiots to walk [AND DRIVE ON] the streets instead of naturally wiping themselves out.

Think about your average stupid person - run of the mill, middle of the road guy - pretty stupid right? Now take a step back, and realize that 50% of the people out there... are even more stupid than that.

OK, so without all the stupid people who would staff fast-food restaurants, chicken processing plants, convenience stores, etc???

As far as the Democrat-baiting goes, I'll bite . . .

While talking about welfare that keeps afloat people who would otherwise tend to sink, let's talk about government support of the oil industry. Both Democrats and Republicans are to blame, but it's my opinion that the Republicans lead the way on this one. How much of our tax dollars are spent maintaining our military presence in the middle east, cleaning oil spills, etc. How much is the tert-butyl-ether (did I get the chemical right) going to cost taxpayers? I can't wait to see the bill the American taxpayer is handed for going to war with Iraq, again!

How interesting driving a car (or SUV) would be if we actually paid the cost of gasoline at the pump, instead of paying a significant fraction of the cost through income taxes. I don't enjoy having my tax dollars subsidize the lifestyles of the Bushes and Cheneys of the world.

Flame on?

IMHO people become stupid when they get too wrapped up in themselves and politics and finger pointing and they lose perspective and appreciation for the finer things in life...

Happy Holidays, everyone!

When people complain about stupid people, it reminds me of a George Carlin (I think) bit about bad drivers. Something like, we all know 90% of drivers on the road are bad, but everyone you ask says they're a great driver. So where are all these bad drivers coming from? Man, I killed that joke's punchline, but it makes a good point.
