Post Tire pressure

I know I need an alignment but I'm waiting until after I put the M030 struts on (which will be very soon), but all my tire pressures are exactly what the owners manual says they should be (29 psi front, 36 psi rear), but my fronts look a little low. Should there be some compensation because my tires are on 17's and the manual assumes they're 15's? What psi would you recommend?

29 is pretty low up front..I don't even run them that low on the track! On the street I usually run about 36 all around..32 all around on the track. With 29 in there you'll probably wear the edges of those tires fast...

dave120,

I'm intriqued that you're running 32 psi all around on track tires. That's a lower tire pressure than I normally run in a early car with similar setup. If you don't mind the question, is the car more neutral at that pressure with your moderately stiff chassis set-up or is there some other rationale for that setting?

TIA

Yeah, I thought 36 gave you more grip than 32, but with a harsher ride...

When you're doing 100+ mph repeatedly and braking and cornering the tires will heat up from 32 psi to around 40 psi by the time you finish your session..if you start with them too high, well you know what'll happen. This is on street tires I haven't gotten good enough to move up to racing slicks yet so I dunno what you do with those..

The pressure recommendations are the same with 15" and 16" wheels so I would assume they would be the starting point for 17" wheels as well although perhaps the sidewall on a 30 or 45 series tire is enough stiffer to become a factor. The edge wear may be because of camber settings and not due to tire pressure. I have never really noticed excess wear (edge or middle) due to pressure differences. I notice a lot of outside edge wear from using street camber on the track (can't decide whethr it's better to wear out the outside or the inside of the tread first.
