Default Cant get calipers off!

I pulled my wheels off today and was going to take off one of my calipers because it has been making noise whereas none of my other brakes do. I could not get the two bolts that attach the caliper to the wheel to move, they were stuck fast.

I was trying to do this with an 8" long socket wrench, I put all my force behind it and just couldnt move the bolts? It dosent look like they have ever been removed, how do you get these things off?

Should I go buy a bigger wrench? I dont have any 19mm open end wrenches.

pb blaster/liquid wrench, let it soak. try it again with a cheater bar but don't strip it

or take a torch to it and get it nice and hot. watch that u don't burn anything else around the area.

or impact gun

A swift blow with a mallet to the socket wrench might help the situation...

I'd use a box-end wrench and metal hammer -- works everytime. (Or a real impact wrench of course.) I wouldn't pound on a ratchet -- you'd likely damage it.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey? When working from behind something, it's easy to go the wrong way. I've done it.

There is nothing a long enough breaker bar won't break loose....or break for that matter.

A good air impact wrench works every time. Use anti-seize upon reassembly.

Please dont use a torch, get a longer handle breaker bar, and apply pressure gradually and evenly, you have a much better chance of NOT breaking anything this way.

Use proper tools. If you get a 1/2 inch breaker bar about 24 inches long, it will come off with no problems. The breaker bar has the ability to break the head right off the bolt so you won't need anything more than that.

Yep! My motto when working on my car -- swear loudly and use a long breaker bar, or a long pipe and breaker bar!

i wish i had a terminator T-1000 for a garage tool. make liquid metal flow around the nut for perfect fit, then harden and extend to a 5ft bar for ez torquing off.

I was going to say, a breaker bar and socket worked for me. Not comfortable hammering anything brake related.
