I have two sets of the same size you mentioned, both RE-730's and although I haven't tried the others I'm satisfied with the Bridgestones and I don't notice any harsh ride or noise. Luck Jim H

I have the BFG's, myself, and I like them....I am no tire expert, though. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Well Keith you could always open your own 944 garage. Now that you are back when is going to be the next charlotte beer night.
BTW if you open a garage I have a timing belt that needs tightening.

Get the Kumhos! Laugh all the way to the bank at the ridiculous amount of money you've saved. I love the Kumhos on my 944 (205/55-15) instead of 215/60-15 because they're about 98% of the size of the spec tire, they're still V rated, and they wear like iron even when pushed to limits. Nice running little tires... I would prefer something grippier for auto-x work, but I'll get someone else's used stickies for my cookie-cutters, and run my Kumhos on my polished phone dials on the
street!

Well, each tire manufacturer tests their tires a little differently to arrive at that magical number. Comparing two 200-treadwear ratings from different manufacturers would probably give different mileage. Also the UTQG is a wear rate, not total mileage. If you have two tires with treadwear of 60, the one with the 10/32" tread depth will last longer than the 6/32" one. Also as a comparison, the Yoke A032Rs (treadwear 60) last about TWICE as long as Kumho Victoracers with treadwear 50.

Still sounds legitimate to me...the treadwear ratings certainly aren't worthless. The fact that they're most accurate when comparing tires from the same manufacturer should be common sense and shouldn't render the ratings useless. Yes I'll still think of them the same way and consider higher values in my current buying decision.

higher than treadwear-400? Are there any such creatures out there? Maybe those oval stone tires from the Flinstones?

I'm just saying I want a higher treadwear rating in general, not the common 140, 200, or 220. The RE-730's have a 300 and the 712's have a 280. The BFG's have 400 and that's what I'd like to have...Michelin's Pilot Sport All Seasons have the same 400 rating but they're WAY too pricey. I'm almost certain I'll be getting some Bridgestones.
