Outstanding service experience with SW Stereo
When we get bad service, we often complain about it loudly.... So I'd like to do the reverse and tell you about a great service experience.
I just installed a Porsche Becker CDR-220 in place of an ancient Blaupunkt cassette deck. I ordered the wiring harness for the install from a place in North Carolina called SW Stereo.
Well, last Friday night I was in the middle of the stereo install process (yes, Porsche fanatics sometimes work on their cars on Friday nights) when I hit a snag. Basically, a couple of wires needed to be reconfigured, and I was stuck. So I called SW Stereo's technical line, expecting to leave a message. (It was about 8:30 PM on a Friday night, Eastern time.)
Anyway, much to my surprise, a guy answered the phone (it was Stefan Weiss). He spent quite a lot of time meticulously guiding me through the install process. He obviously knew the process cold (every wire color, etc etc). I called him a couple more times that evening.
Well, it turns out that SW's "technical assistance line" is Stefan's cell phone! He keeps it with him all the time and will help with service questions at just about any hour of the day.
He said that he has fielded calls from Europe and Asia... Once a guy called him at midnight (expecting to leave a message) and Stefan answered the phone, and helped the guy with his problem! That episode resulted in an article in some BMW magazine called "Service That Never Sleeps," an article that told the story.
So if you are planning on DIY work on your 944 stereo, you might consider dealing with SW Stereo for components. You know they will be there to provide very helpful phone support.
I have no affiliation with SW Stereo....am just a satisfied long distance customer!

Hi Sean...
I needed speakers for my 87S and, having nowhere really in mind to deal with, I found SW. Since I'm a history buff and like New Bern, and love almost everything about the mountains of North Carolina, I decided to give them my business. Got Stefan on the phone. What a personable, helpful fellow he was!!! He seemed really dedicated to his products working being enjoyed and his customers happy. As with you, Sean, he gave me his number and asked that I call if there were any problems putting in the rear speakers, etc. I made my call yesterday so I don't have the speakers yet, but I have all confidence that I will be recommending Stefan and SW to friends. I found them in Pano and Excellence.
Now I can roll down my windows, pop my roof, and blast down the road with my bagpipe cds blaring!!!
