Default No start - what's next.

I need help. Have had intermittent starting issues with 86 951 since I purchased it. Orig. owner had the same issue - 1 reason he replaced car with new Cayman S. There was an intermittent connection on the relay board beneath the DME relay. (relay was replaced x2). I replaced the relay board, and problem seemed to be solved (at least 1 of them). I then had a failed starter obviously the car wouldn't start then. After new starter, I started the car 3 -4 times and drove about 30-40 miles over 2 days. On the next morning, I started car. Ran about 3 seconds and died. Good batter charge, "bouncing" tachometer (ref or speed sensor OK?) Good fuel pressure (used guage showing between 3-4 bar while cranking). What to check next? This problem has pushed me to consider selling - you may have seen DanP's post to XSBoosts' post last week. Gabe-I want to fix this before selling car. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad

Vacuum issue? I have had hoses spit off when the car died from running out of gas- maybe when your DME problems were happening it caused this to happen. Not sure about the 951, but on the NA there is a hose connection right under the j boot that has caused me problems.

I had a similar problem with intermitent starting. I had a Throttle Position Switch that was bad. It is very easy to check with an ohm meter. Worth a shot.

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a cracked solder joint in the DME. Took me a long time to find it, but I have not had a problem since.

Also, wiggle the speed/reference sensor connectors.......gently. These are prone to intermittant contact.

Buying a new Cayman S would also be a satisfactory repair.

Same symptoms and new speed and reference sensors solved my issue.

Default me too

I second Mongo's solution if your clutch is good. If your clutch is the old rubber style though perhaps it's so loose that the reference sensors aren't able to get a signal.
