Question 951 transmission ; when to rebuild

I have the transmission out of my 86 951 right now and it has 126K miles on it. Is it worth it to have a rebuild done while it is convenient? When do they usually start having problems? Anyone have one rebuilt and have any prices? How much for just parts? I have a friend who is willing to do the labor for free. It shifted fine before I removed it and the synchros were still good.

Unless it was acting funny, howling like a banshee, or sounding like a coffee can full of marbles, I would leave it alone. I have heard of some lasting as long as 250K, or dying as early as 30K. It's a crapshoot!

Ask me how I know.......

That's what I was afraid of. Has anyone else had one fail? How many miles were on it?
