Default exhaust placement

tried search- does your exhaust piping and muffler go in between the cv axle and the car, or in between the ground and the cv axle? I got a new system put in and noticed that the cv axle comes to rest on the exhaust pipe before it gets to full travel!!

Did these bozos put it on the wrong side, or do they just need to put more bend in?

so, i guess that would be CV axle and ground.

Here's a pic of my new exhaust that was put on. It too was between the CV and ground, but the muffler was placed slightly lower. If they routed the exhaust piping above the CV, i'd tell them that it is hitting, and have it re-done.

Well they routed it somewhat correctly; it's in between the cv and the ground. It just doesn't have enough clearance.

Oh believe me, I'm going to have them fix it...thanks for the clarification.

Yeah definately have them lower it, as the heat being closer to the half shaft will just cause your CV's to fail quicker.

That's some pretty bad looking welds there. What all is going on there? It looks like some clamp was used, and welded in place.

yea, it was a temporary solution, and the car has now gone to a better place...

speaking of exhaust, what size is the early 944 exhaust? I was looking into getting a muffler and wasn't quite sure of the size.

late is 2.25. my muffler is 3.5" inlet; it was a junkyard deal so I just had an expander put in.

I'm running the resonator like what came on my car (I think all 88 or 89 models had them), 2.5" pipe, and a borla (I think it's xr1). It sounds perfect except for that it is too boomy at highway cruising. I think that is probably because mine has some monstrous outlet. It isn't too much louder than the regular exhaust, but when you step on it it has a nice snarl. Guess I'll do some recording sometime...

you have the same sentiment? I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it when I found a whole catback setup with resonator and the borla at DC auto. Unfortunately it was from a 924s so it wouldn't quite bolt right on.

I was loking to get a Borla XR1 too, does it need to be offset inlet and center outlet?
