Question 968 how to check ramps

I understand variocam ramps and t-belt pads or some such are a wear item of concern on 968s.

Do these need to be checked by a shop, or is there a quick visual assessment?

I'm considering a car that had the timing belt changed within last 20K miles or so...I assume these parts would've been checked at that time by any shop worth its salt?

If the timing belts have around 30,000 miles on them, skip the visual and change them. With 20,000 they should have more life left, UNLESS they have lots of years on them. For instance if they were changed 20k miles ago but 5 years ago, change them. The camshalf chain tensioner is what you mean with the pads. That should be inspected every timing belt change, and after you pass 90k miles, it is recommend that you visually check it every 12,000k miles, its pretty simple, you just have to remove the cam cover.

Those plastic pads can wear and the chain does stretch, so it is a good idea to change the pads/chain together every 60k miles.
