Default HELP: no start; clicks but no crank

I drove the car earlier today with no problems. After a hour or two, I went to start the car. No crank, just a click sound when I turn the key. The battery is brand new and I have tried the DME trick. I don't even get that crank sound when you have a weak battery. What could this be?

Make sure the the battery terminals are clean and tight.
Check the connections on the starter and ensure they are tight and not corroded(disconnect battery first)
Have you checked the voltage or tried to jump the battery?

Could be a bad battery, terminal, ground, solenoid/starter.

I'd bet either the drive or the solenoid on the starter are failing on you.

I will try the suggestions in the morning. But can a starter just all of a sudden die? I have never had a problem starting and I just drove the car earlier in the day. And all of a sudden one hour later it won't start.

Thanks.

It can, but it's not extremely common. Try getting a hammer and hitting the starter lightly while turning the key and see if it starts.

How do you expect it to die? Cough a few times, roll over and cramp up first?
Or should it just give a weeks written notice, and if yes would you prefer a fax or an email?

Sorry but I could not resist.

i had the same thing happen to me, it was because of corroded connections on the starter. Does your voltmeter frequently read below 12? mine did until i cleaned up the connections, now its normal
