How important is this bolt?

I got one of the bolts around the water neck (through the head to the block) out of my block with only a few threads showing.

+1, this is exactly what I was talking about. If one of them is small enough to bite into the nub you have left it should work.

Not to offend by a engineer put that bolt in that place for a reason, i would suspect that point is important.

So far I've found that when I try to "outsmart" what the engineers did on these cars, I'm often sorry for trying to do so.

A trained monkey could work on these things if you could teach it to read the factory service manual.
