Default cracked oil pickup tube?

Just wondering if these observations would be consistent with a cracked pick up tube.

83 944
20w50 dino oil. top dot on dipstick.
cold start hits 4 bar.
hot idle between 2 and 3.
cruising average 3.

medium to hard braking, rpm less than 1500 and clutch in, drops to 1

turning left while keeping rpm's in the 2000-3000 range. 2-3
turning right while keeping rpm's in the 2000-3000 range. drops to less than 1 and oil light comes on. i stopped immediately.

is that basically cracked pick up tube? does the stock oil pan come baffled? or maybe the baffling.....is broken?

hmm....so if it's possible not a pickup tube problem.... maybe just baffles and worn bearings?

My cracked tube started out like you describe, krystar. Over not too much time (and a trip to the track, and PO having balance shafts out of phase) It went to 1.5 for a 50 miles or so, then it was done.

The pain of either a rod bearing job -or- an oil tube job, is getting the cross member and oil pan off. If you're going in to do one, you should consider doing both.

Lots of places... everyone has their favorite. I think I got mine at pelican parts.

use porsche bearings, not aftermarket, also the syptoms you describe could be due to low oil level

Sounds like a problem. It could be a cracked tube. My 944 spec car lasted 2-3 lap with dropping oil pressure in certain turns before it failed completely. When failed completely the #2 rod bearing sized and blew out the bottom end at 80 mph in a turn. Only later looking at incar video did I see my oil pressure dropping to about zero under hard braking. Typically in hard braking zone I don't want the gauges as I am too busy. On the straights when I check the gaues they were fine. That is why I never notice the issue.

Stock pans have some baffling, but what is commonly referred to as a baffled pan has a trap door elemented welded into the bottom of the pan. I also attribute my broken pick-up tube to balace shafts 180 out of phase.
