Default A round of applause for this clutch, please...

My car has 150,776 miles on it. I have records from new to prove the mileage (dealer warranty stamps), then what I believe to be every record from 1989+. No indication of clutch replacement.

Rubber center is all there, still spongy, not dry at all. The disc material is approaching the rivets, though.

It's being replaced by a spring center clutch for peace of mind.

Yeah, my uncle's S2 is parked next to mine right now. It's 6 years newer, half the mileage, and he sheared the rubber center on a 3-4 upshift at Lime Rock. That's why I'm putting in a spring center, once I get out of school this might be my track rat.

Arash, long story. My water pump was leaking and it was time for new belts/rollers/seals anyways. Everything was straightforward until I broke a bolt in the block. Then I found a pool of oil on top of the upper BS cover, and it didn't come from the head. Pulled the intake to reseal that with Loctite 574. Tried to remove the (worn) oil pump drive sleeve, and that wouldn't budge off of the crank. Pulled the oil pump to try and do so, but it still won't budge.

Being that close to changing rod bearings, and having the original clutch and fuel lines, I just said "screw it" and pulled the powertrain. (I have main shaft and axle shaft seals in my parts box, so it made sense to pull that too) The front suspension bushings are also shot from a combination of oil leaks and age, so it's pretty much the ultimate "while you're in there" project. Since I've already done the head gasket, the engine should be bulletproof and leak-free for a good while. And the engine bay and block will be CLEAN.

Might as well replace the whole car while you're at it...
