Default Early Car Fuel/Vac Lines (replacement)?

OK, I've tried searching to no avail.

I want to change out my fuel lines on my '83 but I do not know what kind of fuel line and how much I need. All the kits out there are for '85.5 and later cars.

Is regular injection line OK? I talked to a guy at work today who races them and he recommended SS braided lines for saftey, or SS sleeved at the least. I may be misquoting him, though. Anyone know where to get this stuff?

He also mentioned that there was a threaded fitting on the dampener. I presume this is the jumper line, correct?

The reason I ask is because I work at a parts store and I can get the line for very little money with my discount, and I want to make sure that the only special part I need is the jumper line.

I can get vac lines for very little as well. Is this generic stuff OK, or do I need hard line? I remember a mechanic telling me that Porsches run a lot of vacuum and only good hose works.

I can't comment about manufacturing your own lines but I got my set from Pauer Tuning and am very happy with them. I am sure they would make a set for the early 944.
