To remove the drivers side bag/steering wheel, first disconnect both battery cables for 30 mins.

I'm not sure if removing the pass bag connection and insulating the bag's terminal whould cause any qwirks in the remaining connected system.. ?

Clarks Garage has an air bag test procedure under Garage Shop Manual index on the left, it may provide some help. Be sure to add Clarks to your Pcar faves.

I used this procedure from Tom's webpage to disable the airbag on my passenger side, but this was a semi-permanent fix, not one that you could easily activate/deactivate.
