Default Boxster Steering Wheel on Non-Airbag S2?

Well, I searched for about 30 mins and couldn't find a definative answer on this.
There was a lot of unanswered posts and contradicting information.
I've read that the splines are different on 944's compared to 996's.
Are Boxster splines the same as 996 (ie different from 944) ?

Basically I want to put an airbag boxster wheel on a non-airbag S2.
Simular to this one (without the wood trim):

Keeping in mind that I have access to a mill, scrap aluminum, full sets of drill bits/taps/fasteners, and I'm a fairly competent fabricator, do you think it's possible to make it work?
The horn would need to work as well.

Yes it's doable, I put a 3 spoke 996 wheel in my 951, the 4 spoke wheel will work as well.

Here's a link to the write up I did.

Since you're not worried about the air bag, the only trick is that you need to machine about a 1/4" from the inside of the steering wheel hub in order to allow enough threads from the steering shaft to stick through so that you can attach the 24mm nut that holds the wheel on the shaft. Pictures and details are in the write up (there's also a link in my sig).

Take a look at the link and then if you have any questions just drop me a PM.

Haha, nice. That's a minor drawback.

Thanks gregeast.
I actually read that write-up, but I read somewhere else the splines are different and won't work.

So, let me clarify a few things:
- is it absolutely necessary to buy the clock spring as well, or is it just to make the airbag work ?
- are the splines the same on all 944/993/996/boxster (I know they differ in length, but are they the same diameter and same number of teeth) ?
- your write-up was for an airbag car, will it be any different because mine is non-airbag ?
- what exactly is different between the airbag and non-airbag 944s ? the clock spring unit ?

PS - the wheel I'm looking at doesn't say "boxster" on it.
