Default Leaky Taillights

I left my car out last night. Today, there's water accumulating in the trunk compartments. I followed the drain hoses and find they're not the culprit. What appears to be the problem is the taillights themselves: water appears to leak into the trunk from faulty seals. Check out these links for photos:

Thanks,

There really isn't a "seal" per se. The factory used tacky black strips of something (I don't really know what to call it...). I had the same problem on my car and got ahold of some and it dried things right up.

Exactly what Bonestock said. Porsche used this said black tacky stuff as a magical sealer, and its quite the pain. Get your hands on some or some other type of sealing substance. BTW, if you want to get them out for whatever reason it is unbelieveably hard. Some people say a "firm push", i refer to it as a strong kick.

mine right rear light leaked so bad that the floor of the interior got really soaked after a long rain. I used to vacum all the water out after the inside. I resealed the light and now its ok.

I think it was here...a long time ago...that I read that the most simple and effective solution was to get the smallest drill-bit in your tool kit and drill some very tiny weep holes in the bottom of the lenses.

I did this on both the early car I had and my S2...have had no problems since.

This only helps prevent condensation forming inside the lens really, wouldn't really help water stay out of the car.

yep works wonders for the lights. did it on all my cars.

of course if you have other areas of the car leaking you are not fixing the problem. but if you look at the wells on the side by the rear quarters you will see holes drilled into the bottom from the factory. specifically to drain the water.

I agree...but I've never had water inside the car...hatch carpet's always been bone dry...I just used to get a bit of water in the lenses....a bit more than I would think could come from condensate.

Not any more!
