I thought the blower fan was under the hood center of the windshield?? Never been into my dash, but have worked on a bunch of early and late cars and always seen the blower under the hood.

The fan underneath the hood is for the Heater and the fan in the footwell is for the A/C. Those two metal pipes are the coolant tubes they should have large nuts where they meet the blower. Drain the system and unbolt them.
