Default SSQ #1: How to remove taillight assemblies?

This is the first of several "stupidly simple questions" I'm embarrassed to ask. Search function didn't return "stupidly simple" enough answers...my .pdf workshop manuals don't cover this either.

How do you remove the taillight assemblies from a 1983 944? My car is getting ready for paint. I've removed the nuts but the assemblies won't come out. Before I risk breaking something by prying it inappropriately, I need to ask.

Thanks,

Nick

I looked at Clark's Garage, nothing there, either. Good news is I'm sure someone has some rear assemblies off a parts car if you wind up breaking it.

They are stuck to the body with a very sticky sealant. It comes in strips. Just carefully push on the back of the light and it will come off. I had mine off to reseal it because it was leaking. I don't know where to get new sealant tho.

They're stuck on with Porsche Black Goop sticky ****...
Push on em firmly and evenly and it should come out no problem.... Then you'll have a nice time getting the goop off both the tail-lights and the body.
When I re-sealed mine I used some ½" closed cell foam tape. It was like 5 bucks for enough foam to do almost 2 cars.

i had the luck of getting a set off a parts car. your gonna need a firm push, and by firm push i mean your heel to the back of the assembly.

I have read that it's a lot easier with heat - even just doing it on a real hot day.

I have also read that sealants that work are:

1/4" 3M glass sealant strip

NAPA Strip Caulk (part no. 4424) butyl cord
