Default 968 no start when cold

We have an ongoing problem with my brother's '92 968 - it won't start when it real cold. It's flooding out, pulling the fuel pump fuse will get it to start and run until it's burned up the excess fuel. We can tow it and get it to start within a couple hundred yards, and once it's started and runs for about 30 seconds it will restart and run fine after that. We've replace the DME temp sensor with no change. Anybody seen this before?

Any input is appreciated.

How about the DME relay?

So it floods? Then you pull the pump fuse and it runs? That doesn't make any sense!

Find out if it's a spark problem or fuel problem. DME relays go bad a lot (never happened to me though). I've heard fuel pressure regulators can go bad where they work when hot but not when cold... and vice versa. I had it happen where it would start and run fine when cold but it sputtered when hot, and couldn't start. Maybe yours broke the other way.

I'd check FPR if it starts without fuel pump fuse. Usually when FPR goes bad, there's excessive fuel pressure, injectors will pull too much current and DME shuts them down.

good answer ! I'd go with that too.

did this problem get sorted in the end ? some closure on these non starting issues would be helpful to others facing the same problem
