Default stopping battery corrosion

So if I replace my battery cables, will that stop the corrosion? I'd hate to replace them and have the new cables do the same thing. It has gotten really out of hand lately- especially on the negative side.

Had that problem on one of the fork lifts here about a year ago. Switched out to some "gold plated" terminals made by DEKA. They seem to work well and I don't have the corrosion at the terminal any longer. I don't see why they wouldn't work for the 944 as well.

Best advice actually. The second best is get an AGM type battery that doesn't need to vent and cause the acidic fumes that cause the corrosion in the first place.

Default try these

These work well, are cheap, and you can get them at any Walmart

You'll need to clean everything up before putting them on though.

On my car the PO had some clear red spray on the terminals. Dunno what it is but I have zero corrosion on the terminals. it also has those pads from post #6. I think any auto parts should have this spray, I just haven't looked for it but may have to due to my battery getting weak, I think it's on its way out so, so when I replace it I should redo the coating.

Yeah, that red spray works perfectly. Got mine at cheap at autozone - comes bundled with another cleaner/neutralizer spray.

I think I am going to do all of the above. I need a battery also- after sitting for 3 mos it refuses to hold a charge.

Thanks all.

Also, do I still need to swap the cables? I plan on doing it at some point soon, but I've got to get my front end damage and car painted first.

The lead seldom goes away. If the wire conductor is foul, then it would be warrant a cable replacement. If there's some slack in legth, you may be able to get by cutting them back to good wire and replacing the terminals.

Considering that one was on my car for less than 1K miles, it's pretty lightly used. I can always make up another round of new ones too if enough people wanted them.
