Default Driver Door handle trigger break

At the end of the Fall season I went to squeeze the driver door handle to gain entry, I heard a nasty snap, I figured I had broken the nylon linkage, today I got around to getting into the door, it appears the actual finger trigger (metal trigger on the inside of the latch) snapped, rendering the latch useless.

Is it possible to replace just this trigger element? Essentially rebuilding the latch? It is an authentic door handle and I'd rather keep it as the lock matches the ignition key. Any thoughts? Has anyone successfully replaced only the trigger mechanism? Or is this a waste of time and should I just buy a new/used complete external door latch?

Thanks in advance!

If you buy new door handle, you can switch the old lock cylinder to new handle. Or you can easily rekey the new lock cylinder to match your old key.

Are you sure you snapped the actual trigger? I have seen a lot of them break the little metal pivot piece that the trigger sits in and pulls forward when you open the door. If that is the case you can buy a new linkage piece which includes this pivot piece on the end, and all you have to do is pull out the tension pin and switch the piece.

Mine broke a pivot bushing on the handle side, that holds the piece that is pulled in turn by the trigger lever, and despite getting really creative with epoxy, a tiny drill bit and... well it was a waste of time.

New handle FTW. $40 on Ebay... (plus $29 shipping to NZ )

Buy Smokiemons scripted ones, those handles are niiice...

Other than that, if you like the look, you can "upgrade" to 968 handles.

Remember, it's not something breaking, it's another upgrade opportunity...

Thanks for your comments, I've got to double check the handle, I'm pretty sure the actual trigger snapped at the mounting pin. I really don't want to part with my authentic metal script driver handle, it's got this awesome titanium patina, I hit it with a little mothers metal polish and it shines this awesome titanium / silver. I've got me eye on a couple of auctions on ebay.
