Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit Replacement?

Ok Clarks garage says to use a "stubby" 24 mm open end wrench. With the power steering pump off it looks as if I will need about a 3 inch long wrench if that. It looks like I might need to pull my front sway bar.

Are there any tricks for getting this off and a new one back on? I did try a strap wrench and the casing of the Sending Unit turned but not the base so I am hoping that the Oil Pressure Sending Unit was / is the cause of my leak.

Its a pain in the neck, definitely disconnect the two center drop links and the end link on the passenger side to lower the sway bar out of the way. I found it was also helpful to take the power steering pump off its bracket (remove belt, one nut and one bolt) and let it hang down. I was able to use a fairly short adjustable crescent wrench which is about 5 inches long to loosen it up.

I was not able to find a stubby 24mm wrench locally and did not want to pay $24 for a tool i will use once from the Snap-On truck.

I have the power steering pump all the way out to rebuild it. I have Weltmiester sways so removing that is a small project unto itself but I am headed that way. It's supposed to be torqued to 25 foot lbs but we will see how bloody hard it is to get out.

Out of curiosity, why are you replacing the oil pressure sender? I think I may have to replace mine, given that when the oil is warm, the needle maxes out and fails to register anything.

Stubby 24mm wrench = 15/16" available at Sears for $13.99.

Sears P/N is 44102. Good luck.

I just went through my big ammo can of extra tools and WA LA 15/16 wrench. Five minutes later with a hack saw and I now have a "Stubby" wrench. It came loose and, with the sway bar untouched.

Yep pain in the ***.

YA..I was gonna say..." just cut a longer wrench off". It could be made in India or Taiwan for the application.

I just put a deep 24mm socket on there and got it off with a half inch drive ratchet. I had the power steering pump down and the sway bar off. Came off easily.

I am talking about the Oil Pressure Sender. You can't get a socket on it. The body of the sender is much larger than 24 mm.

Sounds to me like the 2 wires on the sending unit are swapped on yours Colin. One is for the light, and the other is for the gauge. Swapped will cause the exact condition you are talking about.

As far as removal goes, I used what is called a crows foot. All it is is a 24mm open end off of a wrench that has a 3/8" sized hole in it so you can put an extension on it with a ratchet. Makes it super easy and is avail through most tool suppliers.

DOH! sorry, was thinking OPRV for some reason. I used an 8" crescent wrench. Fit perfect and worked like a charm.
