Default Gauge issues

Hi guys I am new to rennlist but I have some big plans for my recently acquired 87 951 and will post my experiences. First things first however... well three things first actually...
1) seatbelt light and airbag light stay on no matter what... suggestions?
Ive been told it could be the DME.. I have no idea.
2) When under WOT after 4000 RPM I lose power so suddenly that it feels like i slammed on the brakes... it also died on me once after the loss of power and then i could immediately restart it... vacuum lines maybe? it doesn't do this when accelerating slowly or "normally"
3) Oil pressure is spiked... oil level is good and is in good shape (changed a month ago) the exclamation point light stays on, im assuming because of the oil pressure reading.

car has 120,000 miles. thanks in advance for all your help!

also, im in northern virginia (fredericksburg) and i am looking to get into any local clubs and meet some new people that share the "bug", so if theres anyone around, message back. thanks again!

the "!" light is on because of the other dash lights. We call it the "idiot" light.

The seat belt light is illuminated because of the airbag light. This was a problem in my car so I disconnected the airbag controller. If you do this you have to jumper two areas so the fuel pump will operate. If you want more info on this, PM me.

As far as the oil pressure, you may have a bad guage or a bad oil pressure sending unit. The sending unit is located on the passenger side of the engine on the oil filter housing. You might want to pull the cluster and clean all the contacts for the guages.

As far as the power issue, is the car modified? Could you be overboosting and the engine is protecting itself? What's done to your car?

The first thing to do with anything electrical is check the grounds.

There's a diagram floating around somewhere that maps them all. I thought I had it, but I don't ... otherwise I'd post it for you.

Have you tried Clarks Garage? It's the source for this kind of troubleshooting.

Note that MPII and MPIII are inside the car, in the driver's side footwell. You really have to do some awkward twisting to get at them, but they're the first ones to check, I'd say.

well ive replaced a few vacuum lines and all of the ones ive replaced look as if they are brand new... haven't taken the intake manifold off yet to see the "hidden" ones though.

the power cut off still persists and ive noticed that after it does it once, then its difficult to accelerate at all without it running really rough. after a few minutes of driving it gets better. Im fairly confident its overboost protection but the car is completely stock with a test pipe. would a vacuum line really cause such drastic behavior?

i disconnected the airbag and jumped the fuel pump and that turned off my "idiot" light along with the airbag and seatbelt lights, thanks bonestock! who needs airbags...

looking into a oil pressure sending unit now

thanks for all your help guys, things seem to really be coming along now

Glad you were able to fix the airbag light issue! Just make sure that jumper wire can't come out or it'll give you a nice little surprise! Lindsey Racing (www.lindseyracing.com) sells a very nice silicone vacuum hose kit for ~$35. I used this on my car and it solved some irregularities that I was having as well.
