Default Odometer blocked?

This morning I noticed the odometer on my 86 944na is blocked with what appears to be paper except for the first and last digits. I'm guessing this may be an anti-tampering device? The last digit is incrementing as is the trip odo. History is I have owned this car for the last 9 years, it has been sitting for the last 4 and recently revived. Has a different DME controller now as the previous was bad and I have put about 1000 miles on it since reviving.
Thanks for any advice.

it's just a dumb sticker that fell off the back of the gauges. I had the same thing in my 86.
When I took the gauges out to replace the odometer gear I just took that sticker out, and removed the rest of them.
It's not hard to remove the gauge cluster. But you could just leave it in there if you don't want to go through the hassle. It might just fall out by itself.
