i work with a guy who is pulling his ls1 from his late z28 in favor of his hopped up 454 from his '71 chevelle he wrecked two years ago. i think he wants 1500 for the motor including the trans (auto), both of which could use some work, primarily a rebuild.

i've been trying to get him to cut me a deal on the motor alone. it has every bolt-on on earth, and if i bought it, i'd put a cam in it while i was rebuilding.

the problem isn't the cost of the swap itself, but then switching to wider wheels and stickier tires to take the power, upgrading the rest of the drive train, installing bigger brakes, etc....

I think it's about $7k-$10K for the engine, ancillaries and all the conversion kit parts, depending on how much you scrounge. Easily more if you rebuild or build up the engine some. Another couple grand of stuff to do while you are at it. If you start with an NA you'll probably need a transmission at the very least for $600-$2400. I'd plan on $10K-$15K plus the car, plus labor.

so its:

$1500 for the engine

$6500 for the ac, alternator, cpu and conversion kits?

(i'll be fine blowing the stock transmission before I buy a new one.) you can go through 8 na transmissions for the price of 1 turbo trans.

Wrong. A decent turbo trans isn't going for much more than 1.5-2X the price of an N/A trans. Someone failed economics in school.

I don't think any LS1 car is going to be fully legal with a pressurized gas tank for the OBDII test. I can find complete 98+ wrecked camaros for $1500 so the LS1 is not that spectacular of a price.
