Default HELP MY 944 WONT STOP FLOODING!

It's rainy season up here in Northcal and My passenger side floor is ALWAYS wet, i thought i fixed the problem by coating AND testing the battery tray ( that is fine ) and the window seals ( no water getting in through here ).. its not from the heating system either, its definatly water. SO where do I check next?!, i don't have a garage out here and my cars interior is going to be horrible if this keeps up. Any suggestions!?
thanks,
-Tyler

I had this same problem with my old 944, and with our current 944. I too tried the battery tray fix, and I tried cleaning the sunroof drains. I couldn't pinpoint it. I was going to start trouble shooting it with a little blunt force. I was going to put a fat strip of duct tape over the rear hatch upper edge. If that doesn't stop it, I was going to tape the sunroof borders. If that doesn't work I was going to put tape over the windshield seal.

The best way to diagnose a leak is to strip the interior and get inside the car, and spot where the water is dribbling in from. I did this in my old benz, and it worked. Except the carpets in a benz are not glued in, they are just mats placed in, so it was easy to strip everything out.

Go buy yourself a rainproof car cover for $75 at Kragen.

Try putting more tape on the passenger side window?

Yeah, mine leaks if it sits in the rain, but not really if you drive in the rain. It leaks around the sunroof, even though I verified that the drains work fine. Now I just cover it up and it doesn't give me problems now!

Believe me, the car cover is definitely the best solution.

944s seem to be prone to leaks but I eventually fixed all my leaks after 2 winters of sever flooding lol.

my rear seats were getting wet ended up being the quarter window seals leaking.

passenger compartment was wet same with rear footwell, I tought it was the battery tray, sunroof but it ended up being the heater fan assembly but this is an 85.5 model. I had to reseal the heater fan.

no more leaks now.

I had to remove my entire interior and clean it all up, my car smelled like a moldy sponge until I fixed the leaks and cleaned it real good. I actually had green mold growing on the rear seats..... really gross.

replace back lights seals. if they leak you get water all over the place.

A leaking heater fan? Good catch! I'm gonna go check my 944's heater fan because it leaks pretty bad too.

But the best quick fix is a car cover.

I have the TSB for possible water entry points. A few odd places it lists are: spot weld at door hinge pillar to wheel house, triangle intersection of the windshield frame-water drain tray-wheel house, front sunroof drain tubes can be punctured by the trim panel mounting screws, corner area of water drain tray & front engine wall, central electric board mounting plate, spot weld points for the foot pedal support, spot welds for battery mounting bracket.

Damn, that TSB makes it sound like water gets in from everywhere and can't be stopped.

For an update, I pulled teh carpet out a bit from the spot where the pop hatch button is but passenger side. There is definatly some moisture in there, I think i have it narrowed it down to the windshield seals (It has been replaced in the past).. or the Sunroof drains. Good thing I have a garage where I'm moving in a few weeks
