Default 924 gauges in 944?

Are the 924 face gauges any different than the pre 85' 944 face gauges?

Same gauges, with the exception of the tach. There is a different connector, but its still usable. You just need to use a spade connector 'jumper' wire from the main harness to the gauges terminals. Basically a +12, G (signal wire) and ground. I dont remember the specifics on which pins you need to connect together, but all can be found in the wiring diagram, or simply mix and matching the wires until it works right.

The 924 gauges look different than the 944 gauges (different type setting).

The 924S gauges are identical to the 944 gauges just with a different color!

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. Do you have any idea where I could buy the 924S gauges?

Ebay is your friend, I think. That and the member-member classifieds here on Rennlist.

I got the 924S 170 speedo from a local porsche wrecker.

I got all the rest of the gauges from a plain 924 I found at a local junkyard. So they don't have the right look, but close enough. The multigauge really looks the same anyway, the 10 bar oil gauge looks good, and I think all 924/924S clocks are the same. The tach.... well... it looks close enough.

I have the same speedo and combo gauge, but I got my tach from a 924. It looks more similar to the 944 tach, except it has the white/red colors, and the font is more like a 70s font or something.

I'd take a picture if I had them here, and if I had a digital camera.

Will you/did you need to lengthen the speedo wire to move it to the right-most bezel? I've read it's typically too short to do this. Very nice.

It was a very tight squeeze, but there was just barely enough slack in the cable to reach.

Usually a few on eBay. Just make sure they are the 924S guages if you have a 944

I have that identical setup in my 924S. I had to pull the speedo cable back almost to the firewall, and then reroute it in a more direct route to the speedo. It was a PITA, but it ended up being just the right length, and I love the tach in the middle with redline at the top. Much easier to read in peripheral vision.
