Default newbie question

just joined the ranks of porsche ownership with an 87 944.

re: stone guard removal......i've search and the consensus is a blow dryer/heat gun with plastic putty knife and alot of patience.

my question is....has anyone ever used a steam machine? i just used one to remove window tint and it worked flawlessly. would steam be safer on the underlying paint than a heat gun?

thanks alot!

Sounds like a good idea. Use the same cautions you would with the heat gun.

I personally used the hair dryer, plastic trim scraper, and goo gone, paint survived perfect. Show us the pics of the car- it's required. And welcome!

Nice looking car, you'll be impressed how good it will look when you get the old rock guards off. My car actually had better paint under the clear guards and I had to use a mild polish to clean and blend in the rest of the paint. Oh, and it took me two passes with the scrapper, the heat makes quick work of the top layer, then you have to go back and scrape a little more at the adhesive residue below.
