Default 87 944 n/a waterpump

Hi, i recently purchase a 944 from a friend and i read up on about changing the timing belt and waterpump. I checked the belt and there was no tear or anything it looks like it is nearly new. Should I change it incase? Plus, he also said that the waterpump should be fine because it is a 944 n/a. And i believe the water pump has over 100k on it the odometer stopped at 170k and the engine is new with 100k and up right now. So basically, should i change it jsut in case and if so can i use a 86 pump in a 87?

Welcome.
If there is no documentation, without a doubt change the belts,w/p, rollers and seals. Especially since the odometer is not working. These are common maintenance items on the 944 and relatively inexpensive when compared to the cost of repairing damaged valves.

Good service + cheap = oxymoron. It generally doesn't exist. If you find a place that can and will work on your 944 it will not be cheap. Expect timing belt, water pump, seals, etc to run $1200.00 Find some friends (rennlist is full of great people), buy food and beer, plus the parts, help and learn about a fantastic car and place that Rennlist is. Welcome

Midwest performance; I looked at a 944 he had for sale and met the mechanic. Never had any actual work performed on my car, but they seemed like a pretty nice business. More 911 oriented.
The timing belt, water pump service is not that difficult. You just need a LOT of patience and the right tools.
