Default What size pin spanner/wrench for belts?

Hi there,

I'm about to replace the belts on my 944 turbo and looking for that elusive pin spanner. Arnnworx sells a specialised one but I'm keen to get a much cheaper generic one.

Does anyone know what size the pin spanner needs to be? Specifically:

1) The distance between the pins
2) The size of the pins

Thanks!
Alex

Center of pin to center of pin is about 1.543 inches or 39.2mm. Roll pin diameter is about .2 inches or 5mm. I have Bruce's tools, but his spanner wrench did not hold up to professional use. The pins that he used bent too easily (maybe he has changed the design, I have had the tool for quite a few years). Anyway, I cut the pins flush, ground off his weld on the backside holding them in place, went to the hardware store and bought roll pins and installed those in the tool. Seems to hold up a lot better.

To be honest with you, if I were looking for tools to buy again, I would still purchase them from Arnnworx. He has done the do-it-yourselfer 944 guys a big help by building his tools and selling them for a very affordable cost. They pay for themselves the first time you do a belt job/waterpump job yourself.

I have the factory balance shaft tool. It has worked very well for years. I have rebuild 2-3 engines and done many belts changes came gear removals.

Thanks guys.

I almost bought them from Bruce but apparently he's not around for a few days and I do need the tools asap

I might improvise this first time...

You can buy an adjustable one from most hardware stores in a pinch.

As Michael said, you can find a generic adjustable type in the plumbing section of Home Depot.
