replace sway bar bushings before or after alignment?
I'd like to get my car aligned but I need to replace my front sway bar bushings and linkage. Does it matter if I replace them after I get my car aligned? The sway bar has nothing to do with wheel alignment, and I don't have to get it aligned after messing with the sway bar, right? I have a weiltmeister sway bar installed. I don't know where I'm going to find replacement bushings and linkage for it.

Agreed with the "does not matter" crowd.
I suppose that I'd try and do it before in the infintessimal (sp?) chance that something, somewhere, gets messed up, but I wouldn't make any real effort to do so.
BB.

Agree with "does not matter", in fact best solution is to have them disconnect the sway bars while doing the alignment... but that's really overkill... unless your bushings are particularly bad, it shouldn't even play in.

The shop I am taking it to has laser equipment and the guy that does alignments knew his stuff when he worked on my previous car. I'm not sure he'll want to touch a 944, but I don't think a front alignment is as bad as the back. I'll call him after I do the sway bar bushings. That way he can catch something if I mess up... although that job seems simpler than an oil change . I'm just getting the front wheels done since I did not work on the rear suspension. I did all 4 wheels 2 years ago.

Your guy needs a special tool to do the rear... does he know that? With the tool (it's a little eccentric-cam-socket) the rear is pretty easy.. I'd highly recommend a 4 wheel alignment on these cars.

don't let them charge you extra for the front... it's the same as nearly ever other car on the road. The rear is a little different, but does NOT require special tools (though the eccentric socket previously mentioned does make it easier), but we did mine with just standard hand tools.

Luis de Prat - My front sway bar is not original. It is a 28mm Weltmeister sway bar. Are you suggesting OEM bushings and linkage will work with my 28mm Weltmeister sway bar?

before.

In that case OEM bushings will not work (bushings are specific to the say bar diameter). I don't know enough about the weltmeister bar to tell you if the linkage will work... but odds are that it came with it's own linkage, which is an upgrade to the OEM linkage, and likely contains to no rubber parts to wear out.
