Kricket vs 9201 vs 920X - which route to go ?

Ive used the 9201 a few times and could never get consistant results with it. Never had problems using the 920x. I trust Bruce Arnn did something right... over 30k miles on my timing belt with the belt tensioned for 15k miles using his original AWX tensioner and another 15k tensioned using the 920x. Another 5k on the new timing belt tensioned with the 920x. Ive done a few other cars using the 920x and never had problems. Easier to use than the 9201 and i can actually get consistent results with it. I havent touched the 9201 since i got the 920x, i keep it as a novelty if anything .

Really? I find that 'level' actually makes them appear askew in respect to the room (floor is off by about 1/64" per foot from gravity level), so I adjust them accordingly. Works out to about 1'' (or 0.0002 degrees) from vertical.

I've got both a 9201 and 920x and found both to be easy to use and give repeatable readings - and yes the 920x is spot on (compared to the 9201) if you follow the instructions.

No experience with the kriket but from reports I've heard I would not trust it.

Given the price, I'd go 920x - yes it's a lot more than a Kriket, but it is cheap insurance.

Wow, all good things to know.

When I email'd Bruce about his tools, he responded by the end of the day which i think is pretty acceptable. I was thinking about his max tool kit since it has all the special wenches for doing the belts and seals and such. Yep, I think that is the route that I will go.

Tom, I wouldn't waste my money, unless you've got it to burn. I've done quite a few tensions by feel and how they sound. With 12,000 miles on my rebuild and 3 or 4 other 944's running around with belt jobs that I have helped tension, I'm not saying I'm an expert, I just think that when it comes to belt tension people are a little paranoid. Check them periodically and keep up the maintenance you'll be fine.

By the way you should have a tensioning party, there are quite a few listers round these parts who would be more than willing to lend a hand. Where are you located? I'm in Clintonville, there are a couple on campus, more out east, Grove City, Lancaster, we're everywhere. Unfortunately with all the salt on the roads I think all the cars are hibernating.

Been using the kricket for 5 years, never had an issue. Just need to make sure you take several readings.

I'm over on the east edge of Pickerington, just off of I 70 (eas of columbus a little bit).

Like your idea of a belt change party, maybe if the weather clears up then I'll get something going.

Not sure why I didn't get your reply notification - other folks have made mention of the sporadic delivery as well... nonetheless, my laser level on slab is the reference point... thus, we're both good. No bubble levels here my man.
